Ambulance Annual Reports 2008

Victoria’s ambulance services have tabled their final annual reports for the financial year prior to the formation of a single statewide service, Ambulance Victoria, in July this year.

The reports showed:

  • A combined total of 706,167 ambulance responses, an increase of 29,517 from last year
  • Improved patient outcomes including cardiac arrest survival rates and pain reduction
  • A record level of paramedic recruiting with planning to again exceed this number next year

Ambulance Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Greg Sassella, said that the three annual reports showed Victoria’s ambulance services in good health and positioned to deliver world leading emergency care to all Victorians.

‘These reports show the strategic thinking that is in place and which is required to run an ambulance service 24 hours a day,’ Mr Sassella said.

‘They show that now as one statewide service we can focus on the core business of helping our patients whether they be located in the city or country, and that we have the people, the resources and the systems in place to do that as well as possible.

‘Our focus on patient outcomes, including cardiac arrest survival and pain reduction will be emphasised and we have a solid base to work off.

‘We recognise the need for constant improvement and, despite recording record levels of recruitment last year, we hope to again break that record this year.

‘The $185.7m record government funding this year will see us introduce more than 30 new ambulance services, 258 new paramedics and two new air ambulance helicopters to best help us meet the growing community requirements,’ Mr Sassella said.
