    Works at special events, such as big race meetings and New Year’s Eve, where there are large crowds and difficult access. ‘What we didn’t realise when we started (in 2000) is how many jobs we’d pick up just riding around. Sometimes you beat the 000 call.

    Works in communications room, managing the public’s demand for ambulances. ‘We make sure the resources are in the right place - and that we get to the right jobs at the right time. It’s dynamic, challenging and ever-changing.’

    Works on a two-person MICA crew dealing with very ill patients, including those with cardiac problems and serious trauma. ‘At the end of the day it’s very rewarding. I’m never bored and always learning. I love every day I go to work.’

    Works on helicopters and planes. ‘I enjoy the high-end acuity of the patients, the intellectual challenge and there’s the physical challenge. There is a great variety. I do mostly trauma work on the helicopter and more medical work on the fixed-wing.’

    Works in a team to provide medical care to all types of patients. ‘I became a paramedic to help people, and I can certainly do that in my job. I really enjoy being out on the road, rather than stuck behind a desk in an office. No two days are ever the same.’
