First Aid Courses

Introduction

Ambulance Victoria First Aid thanks you for considering us as your First Aid training provider. The information contained in this section is designed to outline our policies and procedures that relate to your participation in our training programs.

Rural Ambulance Victoria (RAV) is responsible for pre-hospital emergency care and transport for those living and working in rural Victoria. Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS) provides similar services for those living in Metropolitan Melbourne. Ambulance Victoria First Aid (AVFA) is the joint First Aid training and qualifications division of RAV and MAS. RAV is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 6934) and AVFA Nationally Recognised Training courses in either Melbourne or Regional Victoria, are delivered under the auspices of this RTO.

AVFA training courses will equip you with the skills you need to make a difference in a medical emergency. RAV and MAS are the professional front line providers of emergency medical care in the community and because of this, AVFA is uniquely placed to provide highly practical first aid training for both public and commercial organisations.

Training programs delivered involve a mix of practical and theoretical skills. Participants must have the physical strength and dexterity to demonstrate competency in practical aspects of the training programs.

Assessment

Assessment varies from competency to competency and will take place in both the classroom and the workplace. The teachers and assessors will give clear guidance for all assessments. During the course you will have the opportunity to both practice the skills and, if necessary, repeat an assessment.

One or more of the following methods of assessment may be used: observation; case study, role play, demonstration, discussion, folio, or written assignment.

Certificates/statements of attainment will be issued to all participants who successfully complete the requirements of the accredited courses on the RAV Scope of Registration.

Statements of attendance/participation will be provided to those individuals attending non-accredited training programs.

Fees and Charges

The fee for the course specified is inclusive of all costs. All nationally accredited training courses conducted directly with AVFA are exempt from GST.

Refund of Student Fees

RAV will refund all payments made by a student if the course is cancelled or course commencement is postponed by more than one week, unless alternative arrangements can be made which are acceptable to the student.

Prior to commencement a student is required to give a minimum of 2 weeks notice of withdrawal from a course to obtain a full refund of payments. In the case of less than 2 weeks notice, a refund will be given less an administrative fee not exceeding $30.

After commencement of a one-day course or a two-day course over two consecutive days, no refund will be given.

After commencement of a course that spans over one week or more, a student is required to give a minimum of one week’s notice of withdrawal from the course to obtain a pro-rata refund of payments.

If a company is to be invoiced for the cost of a student participating in a course the company will be invoiced in line with the above terms.

Refunds will also be granted on a case-by-case basis in certain circumstances, under the discretion of the AVFA Manager or AVFA Finance & Administration Manager.

Any refund must be given within 4 weeks of notification by the participant.

Cancellation Policy for Group Bookings

The following charges will apply in the event of cancellation of group bookings:

• Cancellations within 2 to 7 days of delivery – 10% of agreed minimum rate for the course

Complaints and Appeal Procedures

RAV has a Complaints Procedure in place, which can be followed by the student. A copy of these procedures can be obtained by calling the AVFA Customer Service Centre on 1800 248 859.

Access and Equity

RAV has provision for assistance for people with visual, language, literacy and learning disabilities. RAV provides a learning environment that is open to all participants from the public and industry in a fair and equitable manner. Your trainer/assessor is the first point of contact concerning any of these issues.

Client Support and Welfare

If you require any support regarding course assistance, guidance or your comfort/welfare during class, please let your instructor know. If you require assistance with language or literacy please advise the trainer immediately.

Sensible Attire

Due to practical procedures involved in all courses it is appropriate to attend in comfortable, casual attire.

Selection, Enrolment & Induction

There may be specific selection criteria depending on the course you wish to undertake. To undertake a course conducted by RAV you must fill out the booking form provided to you.

Once you are booked in you will receive confirmation of this booking, along with notification of course dates and times.

At the beginning of the course your instructor will give a brief induction. RAV requests that while undertaking the course you respect the rights of others and act as would be expected in a classroom setting.

RPL/RCC and Credit Transfer Application

RAV has a procedure for “Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)”, “Recognition of Current Competence (RCC)” and Credit Transfer. It involves detailed assessment of both qualifications and skills. You should only apply if there is a real belief that you already possess the knowledge and skills outlined in the training content. RAV recognises AQTF qualifications issued by other RTO’s.

Credit transfer can be issued if a person has undertaken a course identical in content to the RAV courses and has obtained a Statement of Attainment (SOA) for that module of the course and that SOA is still current.

For information on eligibility contact the AVFA Customer Service Centre on the number below before commencement of your course. RAV has in place procedures for the recognition of other RTO’s qualifications the student may possess.

Privacy

RAV has in place policies to respect and protect the privacy of our students. We comply with the Victorian Privacy Legislation (Information Privacy Act 2000 and Health Records Act 2001).

When contacting RAV to enroll and then participate in our courses, or by providing additional information to update existing course renewals or registrations, you are providing your name, address, telephone numbers, email address and other information relating to yourself.
