Secondary Schools
ADAPT, the Ambulance Drug and Alcohol Program for Teenagers, is targeted towards students from Year Nine and above. It aims to increase students’ safety awareness and understanding of how to identify and minimise risks, what to do in a medical emergency and when and how to call for an ambulance. The ADAPT program specifically discusses safe partying for secondary school students, how to prevent a medical emergency occurring at a party, how to adapt and deal with medical emergency situations if they occur, and basic first aid steps.
The program comprises of a Teachers Resource Kit and a visit by a qualified paramedic. The PowerPoint based presentation can be delivered as part of a timetabled subject area (ie. Health & Physical Education, SOSE or Science) or can become a focal point at a particular time throughout the academic year to complement other programs (ie. life skills, pastoral care or student welfare programs).
An integral part of this program is a visit to your school by a qualified and experienced paramedic with medical emergency equipment. Their presentation provides valuable, hands-on experiences for students and includes:
- How to assess and deal with emergency situations
- When to call for an ambulance
- Paramedic procedures – what happens when the ambulance paramedic(s) arrives and what to do while they are on their way
- Explanation and demonstration of medical emergency equipment used
- Tips on safe partying practices
- Community Service Announcement 'it's your call'
- Opportunities for questions by staff and students
Cost:
The ADAPT Program is charged at $50 per 45-60 minute session with a minimum daily charge of $150. Ideally sessions will run for 60 minutes, however extended sessions are available at an additional cost. Multiple sessions in succession can be booked.
To enable students to receive the maximum benefit from this program, we recommend one class per session (approximately 30 students) however, if larger groups are required we may accommodate up to 50 students per session.
