Ambulance in Schools
The Community Education and Development Department have produced a number of school based programs with the aim of building community awareness and preparedness, increasing the general publics capacity to manage medical emergencies and enhancing their ability to use Ambulance Services appropriately and effectively.
Our Ambulance in Schools programs include:
The Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS) recognises the need for any school based program to be designed to enhance the curriculum and align with requirements set out by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). The Victorian education curriculum lends itself to the delivery of Ambulance In Schools programs via the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Each programs’ content, outcomes and intended delivery directly aligns with current curriculum frameworks and can be readily incorporated to enhance teacher’s delivery. Indeed, our three programs provide opportunities for various strands, domains and dimensions to be explored in an interactive and useful manner.
An integral part of each program is a visit by a qualified paramedic and in the case of our two Primary programs, an interactive ambulance. We also provide comprehensive teachers resource kits containing lesson plan ideas and family packs/merchandise reinforcing the preparedness message for the students and their families.
