High winds keep paramedics busy
• Woman aged in her 50’s died when a shop wall collapsed in Florence Road at MENTONE.
• 89 year-old man was on the roof of his Bulleen garage trying to fix roof sheeting. Hit by 2m X 3m section of sheeting, stumbled ten metres across roof, fell 1.5 metres onto a lower section of roof. Cuts to neck and head back injury transported to Epworth Hospital
• 48 year-old man struck on face by branch he was cutting while standing on roof of a house in Canterbury. Suffered a broken nose. Transported to Epworth hospital.
• 76 year-old man on standing on a 30 cm stool to tie down tree branch at Altona North. Blown off the stool and fell backwards onto ground. Suffered cuts to head. Transported to Western Hospital Footscray
• 32 year-old man on ladder at Boronia home to fix roof in wind and rain. Lost footing and fell from top rung of ladder onto the ground. Back pain and possible fracture. Transported Valley Private Hospital.
• 34 year-old man walking in Rathdowne Street at Carlton. Tree Branch 20cm in diameter fell about 10 metres. Friends heard the branch crack and pulled him back. Branch hit face. Broken nose. Transported to St. Vincent’s hospital
• 29 year-old man out running on Southbank Promenade. Wind picked up 2m X 4M piece of laminex from the ground near where a shop fit out was being done. Laminex struck the man in the head, knocking him to the ground. Knocked unconscious and cut to the head. Transported to Royal Melbourne Hospital
• 42 year-old woman struck in face by piece of fibreglass blown from neighbours house. Minor head injury. Not transported to hospital.
• 36 year-old man sitting on balcony at Heidelberg Heights. Bamboo blinds were blowing in the wind. While checking the blinds were tied down, a gust caught the blinds, and he was hit Taken to northern Hospital suffering back pain.
• 15 year-old boy was repairing dirt BMX bike jumps at Heathmont when he was struck in the head by a fallen tree branch. Suffered head, back and shoulder injuries. Transported to Monash Medical Centre.
• 78 year-old woman suffered bruising to the face when she fell over in strong winds in High Street at ARMADALE. Treated by paramedics and transported to Epworth Hospital
• 78 year-old woman blown over in street at Preston. Cuts to leg and chin transported to Northern Hospital
• 86 year-old man went out to retrieve garbage bin which had blown away at Forest Hill. Tripped over bin Suffered facial cuts, bruising, and a shoulder injury. Transported to Monash Medical Centre
• 78 year-old woman was outside a house at Eltham. Strong gust of wind blew her over. Hip injury Grazed elbow. Transported to Northern Hospital.
• 83 year-old woman blown over in Bay Street Port Melbourne. Bruising to wrist. Taken home to son.
• 73 year-old woman was leaving shop in Ringwood. Blown over, lost balance and fell onto hands and knees then blown about five metres along. Bruising to Cheek, knee and hands. Transported to Knox hospital.
• 85 year-old blown over in the wind at Reservoir home. Pain to back and hip. Transported to Northern Hospital
• 82 year-old woman trying to shut shed door at Langwarrin. Blown over in strong winds. Back pain. Taken to Frankston Hospital
• 82 year-old woman suffered a hip injury when she fell over in strong winds in New Street at BRIGHTON. Treated by paramedics and transported to Sandringham Hospital
• 30 year-old man hit on the head by flying debris on Southbank Promenade. Treated by paramedics and taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital
• 35 year-old woman and 72 year-old woman assessed by paramedics after their car was struck by a tree in Stud Road at DANDENONG. The 35 year-old woman managed to slow down before the collision, minimising impact. Both women were shaken but not injured.
• Woman hit by a tree branch in the car park at Frankston Hospital. Paramedics who were at the hospital treated the woman for a broken leg, and took her to the hospital’s emergency department.
• 60 year-old man suffered cuts to his fingers from glass, when a large tree fell down across the road, hitting his prime mover in Belgrave-Gembrook Road at Emerald. The impact shattered the truck’s windscreen and drivers side window. Truck driver treated at the scene but not transported
• 22 year-old man suffered an electric shock in Elizabeth Street at Coburg North, when power lines came down on the phone box he was in. Treated by paramedics and taken to Austin Hospital stable condition
• 20 year-old woman walking in Epping. Steel mesh fence blew onto her. Bruising and grazes. Transported to Northern Hospital
