Ambulance merger confirmed for 1 July 2008
The State Government has confirmed that the merger of MAS, RAV and the Alexandra District Ambulance Service will go ahead, effective 1 July.
The new organisation will be known as Ambulance Victoria.
The Government has again emphasised that staff will retain all rights, benefits and entitlements when the organisations merge. There will be no redundancies.
A new Board and Chief Executive Officer will be appointed by 1 July, replacing the three existing boards.
The Government plans to appoint the initial CEO for a 12-month period. During this period the new Board will conduct a public recruitment campaign for a permanent CEO for Ambulance Victoria.
The State Government said that, as part of the consultation process, it received 78 submissions about the merger, all in favour of a single state service.
The MAS submission strongly endorsed the merger and the significant budget increase. We believe a single service organisation will enable substantial improvements to be made to the overall performance of the service across the state.
